Animaniacs Volume 1 is the first DVD release for the original Animaniacs series. It was first released on July 25, 2006 in North America, and has since been re-issued numerous times. In Europe, it was first released in Hungary sometime in the mid to late 2000s, and would later get reprinted in the UK on December 3, 2018.

Synopsis

Pushing limits. Pushing buttons.

The one for fun: Peabody Award-winning debut season! Four score and seven years ago...sorry, wrong address. The Water Tower c/o Warner Bros. Studio: That's the address, the place where studio honchos try to contain Yakko, Wakko and Dot. And fortunately cannot. Animaniacs are on the loose, running rampant at the studio (and 'round the globe), taking the Warner tradition of anything-goes animation and going further. Who helps Beethoven, Einstein and Lincoln in their brain-locked hours of need? Who unleashes a steady stream of film sendups, cultural spoofs and gags? Who puts the bop in the bop-shoo-bop?

Well, two out of three isn't bad, and making things even better in Season 1 are friends who are fiendish (Pinky and the Brain), feathered (the Goodfeathers), furred (Rita and Runt) and frazzled (Slappy the Squirrel). Grab your remotes, maniacs. And Helloooo, Nurse!

Trivia

  • The original 2006-2008 run of this set is among the many Warner Bros. DVDs reported to succumb to disc rot resulting from aluminum corrosion, and has a high chance of not working anymore.[1] [2]
  • Earlier prints of this set came in a jewel booklet-type case with two discs on each "page" (with the exception of disc 5, which had its own "page"). In most reissues since the late-2010s, the discs have instead come with altered art in more fragile, standard-type DVD cases.
  • As of 2022, this is the only Animaniacs franchise DVD set to be officially released in Region 2 (Europe).
  • The discs from this set were later repackaged and re-labeled for the Animaniacs: The Complete Series set in 2018.
  • A digital equivalent of this set (without the bonus features) can be found on outlets such as iTunes and Amazon Prime Video.
  • English subtitles are inaccessible from the subtitle menus. Viewers instead must rely on their television or disc player's own built-in captioning systems for English captions.
  • The aspect ratio of the menus vary from the different displays viewers watch the discs on (for example, a 4:3 display such as a CRT TV would result in a 4:3 menu).
  • The reason as to why the Region 2 version includes subtitles in Romanian and Slovenian, could be due to the fact that this release was originaly done for Hungary sometime around the mid to late 2000s, and the country's relative proximity to Romania and Slovenia.
    • This does also explain why the Romanian dub is absent from this release, despite the language being included in the subtitles, as that wouldn't come out until 2014 for the Romanian version of Boomerang, long after this release originally came out.
