There are simple, yet a good amount of rules that apply to the Animaniacs Wiki. These rules are in place because we want everyone to have a nice editing experience. Users who break the rules will be warned, followed by punishment by blocking/banning. Indefinite bans may be given out to repeat offenders. The Animaniacs Wiki takes the Fandom Community Guidelines into consideration as well.
User Guidelines
Autocomfirmed Users
Per FANDOM guidelines, registered users who have been with Fandom for at least 4 days also have access to the following tools:
- They can edit semi-protected pages.
- They can move pages without leaving redirects.
The Sandbox page is a great place for new editors to visit and test their skills.
Blocking Policy
Users can be blocked or banned for breaking the rules. The length of the ban/block depends on the severity of the offense. Appeals can be posted on your talk page (or if you lost talk page access, the blocking admin's Community Central page). Blocks under 7 days cannot be appealed, unless there was an error from the administrator.
Alternate Accounts
If you have have been blocked/banned from editing, do not make multiple new accounts to evade your punishment. This is called sockpuppetting. Having multiple accounts to contribute is okay, but using them to evade your punishment is not. If found guilty of sockpuppeting, your sockpuppet accounts will be permanently banned, and you will face additional punishment, even up to an indefinite ban on your main account if you keep doing it. Instead, list why we should give you back your editing privileges on your talk page.
Also, using multiple accounts to support yourself in a discussion vote is also sockpuppetting. Your alternate accounts will be permanently banned if caught and you will be warned on your main account to cease this behavior. Continuing to do so will result in further punishment.
Harassment/Vandalism
Vandalism is not allowed on the wiki. This includes, but is not limited to:
- inserting false or unsourced information on pages
- uploading copyrighted content
- bullying other users
- making racist or sexist comments on talk pages and forums
- removing constructive content without warning
- editing other people's user pages without their approval
- posting not-suitable-for-internet content
- uploading non-suitable for internet files or images
- spamming the same thing over and over again or unauthorized advertising (Advertising is to only be done at your userpage, not the blogs or the forums, and users must be active contributors to the wiki. Otherwise, you may be blocked indefinitely as an "advertising account".)
You will be warned once and then blocked accordingly at an administrator's discretion.
Suggestive and NSFW Content
Uploading of overly-suggestive and NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content (such as nudity, fetish content, sexual messages and related) is strictly prohibited and will result in an block without warning, between a week and indefinite. Repeatedly posting overly-suggestive and NSFW content will lead to a permanent block.
Profanity
As Animaniacs is a family television show, no vulgar words may be used unless in context from material (for example, Wakko and Brain saying "hell" in the reboot). This means in discussion threads and talk pages, excessive cursing should be avoided.
Administrator Messages
Ignoring administrator messages is grounds for blocking. Please change your behavior accordingly. DO NOT REMOVE RECENT ADMINISTRATOR WARNINGS FROM TALK PAGES! This will earn you a 7 day ban with removal of talk page access without warning.
Talk pages
Talk pages are not comments. They are only to be used to discuss how to improve the article. Please do not express your opinions about the article. Please take your opinions to the forums. Please be civil and don't harass other users. Please remember to sign off with ~~~~.
User talk pages/Message Walls
Message walls are where users can communicate with each other directly. Please be civil and don't harass other users. Please remember to sign off with ~~~~. DO NOT REMOVE RECENT ADMINISTRATOR WARNINGS FROM MESSAGE WALLS! This is not Wikipedia. Admins need to keep track of warnings. This will earn you a 7 day ban with removal of talk page access without warning. However, you may remove warnings that are really old.
Privacy Policy
Users assume all risk when giving personal information out. If a user refuses to share, do not bug other people for their personal information. This will result in an immediate block without warning.
Discussion/Blog Guidelines
The Discussions area of the wiki has it's own set of guidelines, that can be read here: https://animaniacs.fandom.com/d/g
These guidelines also apply to blogs. For longer discussions, we recommend using the more modern "Discussions" over the blogs. The Wiki keeps blog posts up predominantly for archival purposes of older blog entries as well as for additional future topics including news/reviews.
Content Guidelines
Images and Videos
Images must be of good quality and must not be altered. Non-free images must not be altered. These are copyrighted images allowed by the copyright holder to be reused so long as those who reuse them are using them to inform or under the Fair Use agreement. Altering images for use in mainspace is a copyright violation and can face serious consequences, not only here, but also legally.
Fan images are normally not allowed due to legal issues with the copyright holder and the artist. Certain images (such as fan-created thumbnails for segments without title cards) are allowed to be uploaded only if approved by the admin staff. Fan images are allowed on user pages as long as they follow the guidelines. (See #Fan content for more information)
Videos uploaded onto the wiki can be short clips (up to a few minutes max). Full episodes of Animaniacs shows (and entire movies) cannot be uploaded or linked, with an exception to any content related to The Brain Teaches World Domination. Warner Bros. Entertainment has legal rights to patrol this site and may ask that those full episode uploads or links be removed. In addition, do not upload movies or full episodes of content on your userpage, as said copyright holders have legal rights to check this wiki and will demand those links or videos be removed. If you want to share full episodes, please do so in private. Users who continue to upload full episodes of any media that is officially copyrighted in the United States after being warned not to will be blocked for vandalism.
Warner Bros. Entertainment has legal rights to check this wiki without permission for copyright violations daily, and even may ask that they either be removed, or may request a legal DMCA takedown, which will force Fandom to remove them. Although unlikely, they could request a subpeona, in which Fandom will be legally required to disclose your IP address and location to Warner Bros. Entertainment, so that they may file suit in court for damages. Please do not commit copyright violations, as the consequences can be dire. And yes, even if you live outside the United States, if you live in a country with agreements and treaties with the United States, you can still be legally liable.
An exception to the episode rule is the short mini-series The Brain Teaches World Domination, as Hulu uploaded the shorts to their YouTube page.
Episode Thumbnails/Covers
Do NOT overwrite any current uploads of the episode thumbnails/covers without admin permission.
Fan content
Fan content is only allowed within Discussions. Fanfiction work on the wiki pages is not allowed here (not even on article talk pages); and will be reverted. You may not upload fanfiction work or fan art on your userpage without permission from the creator due to legal reasons, unless you created the fanfiction work or fan art. We may need to see proof that you got permission as well. If you desire to make articles for fan-content, go to the Fanonmaniacs Wiki (Major Content Warning some of the material on that site can get rather inappropriate at times).
Custom Title Cards/Covers On Episode Pages
One exception to the fan content rule- if a certain episode lacks a proper official title card, logo, credits title, or even a proper cover (such as "What Are We?" or "Das Mouse"); then a custom title card can be uploaded as long as one reaches out to an admin first. Do Not Replace Any Title Card Pictures Already Uploaded By Using Custom Creations Without Admin Permission. Some episodes such as "Inherit the Wheeze" have odd-looking frames where the titles appear, warranting a custom title card to be utilized (with admin permission).
Leaked Content Guidelines
Leaked information may only be used on articles if it is either intentionally or accidentally leaked by a company or individual (such as an artist) involved with the production, development, and/or distribution of the respective title. If the information was leaked through illegal means (e.g. leaked videos/clips, such as an episode in question prior to its release, or content obtained through violated NDAs) it is to be removed on sight. This is also the case of any legal copies of the media sent out prior to the official release date for any reason. Articles on things that only became known about by illegal means are to be deleted outright. It is only once said media or information is released via official means that it can be posted on the Wiki.
To prevent the possibility of legal action, this policy cannot be ignored nor circumvented, and no exceptions can be made.
AI Generated Content
As Artificially Generated (AI) content and tools become more prominent, the Animaniacs Wiki has laid down some clarifications regarding the technology.
The use of ""creative"" AI generated content on articles, discussions and blogs (text written using AI programs such as ChatGPT); as well as AI generated audio, images and videos (using tools such as Jammable, Microsoft Designer Image Creator, Google Gemini, Dall-E or Luma AI) is strictly PROHIBITED. However, AI upscaling of older audio, images, or videos are acceptable in certain cases (usually if a higher-quality source cannot be located).
Additionally, online language translators, as well as spelling and grammar checking programs, are not considered AI-generated content and are therefore acceptable to use.
Examples of Prohibited AI Content
- An AI ""song cover"" of an Animaniacs reboot song (such as "Some of Humanity's Wins") ""sung"" by "1993 Yakko." This utilizes a virtual clone of a younger Rob Paulsen's vocal performance of Yakko from the 1993 Animaniacs series. Said tool analyzes sound patterns in samples of his voice, then reproduces them to produce new vocal samples that are almost indistinguishable. Ultimately, this tool has stolen his voice without his consent.
- An article about Chicken Boo's disguises generated entirely in ChatGPT based upon a prompt.
- Ever ahead of the times, Pinky and the Brain has satirized AI-generated writings all the way back in 1998 through the episode "A Legendary Tail" -- where Brain's computer-generated folk tale becomes far too complicated. It is an overly-logical mess that produces a sad and depressing story of failure, rejection, and trademark infringement instead of Brain's intended encouraging tale of triumph.
- Generating images or videos based upon a specific prompt using a program such as Google Gemini or Luma AI.
Examples of Acceptable AI Content
- If no known higher-quality sources can be found, upscaling of specific older content can be utilized (such as a VHS rip of a Kids' WB! promo with far too many static and compression issues, as well as an older promotional image with damage)
- It is not encouraged to upscale every VHS rip just the ones that have too many audio and visual issues.
- Frame-rate enhancements of clips (such as a 60fps "upscale" of "Macadamia Nut") are not encouraged by the Wiki, as they go against the original intended visual presentations. However, this is not a blockable offense. Frame-rate enhancements like these fall into a similar gray area to widescreen crops and stretches of the 4:3 productions (much like the upscalings, said crops and stretches are only used if no higher-quality source can be found).
- Editing out audio issues (example: static sounds in audio)
Regulations
If any user is suspected of using A.I generated content in any article, their content will be reviewed by an administrator. Subsequently, if the content is found to be A.I. generated, then the content will be removed from articles/deleted and the user will receive a warning. If there are continued instances of the user still publishing prohibited AI content, then the user will be banned for a month.
Editing Guidelines
Article Creation/What To Do With "Blank Pages"
The creation of new articles is always welcome; but we highly discourage the creation of "Blank Pages"- articles with no content. If you are going to create a new article, please throw in a few sentences and maybe even a template so it has some content. Additionally, if you see a blank page, do NOT automatically mark it as a candidate for deletion right away. Try to do some research and see if it has some additional context and/or links to other articles, and expand it a bit if it does. For more information on structuring article pages, see here. Note that we discourage the practice of copying entire sections on articles from other sites such as Wikipedia and are currently working to combat this in the articles.
Categories
No new categories should be created without approval. In addition, unnecessary categories such as "cute characters", "characters whose name starts with H" will not be allowed. If you are documenting villainous/antagonistic characters, please use the category "Antagonists".
Sources
Any questionable information must have a reliable or official source. iMDB and Wikipedia are not reliable or official sources, but rather External Links, which can be placed on the "External Links" header in articles. Any unsourced information may be reverted without notice. Official sources include the Futon Critic or press.hulu.com. Reliable sources include television media websites or social media or somebody who works on the show (preferably someone verified). Users who continue to add unsourced information or information not according to reputable or official sources may be subject to a block for vandalism.
Episode Names
For making new pages with upcoming episode names, refer to the Hulu press site, the title cards within the episodes, video-on-demand outlets, and/or cable listings. References/citations are mandatory if the episode has not aired yet. Once the episode airs, the reference can be removed.
eidr Episode Listings
Occasionally, some episode titles may be listed on the Entertainment Identifier Registry (eidr) before their official announcement. Sometimes, they list a few different segment titles under one half-hour listing, or may list them as separate listings entirely (for instance, "Wakkiver Twist Part One" has a separate listing from the rest of episode 21). If no half-hour listing of multiple segments are present, the Animaniacs Wiki advises against creating full articles for these separated segments until their official half-hour listings are unveiled (unless one of the half-hours ends-up containing one cartoon such as Episode 27 (PATB): Brain Noir).
New episode on airdates
As new episodes air, we need as many users as possible to be adding new information for new episodes on their airdate (particularly if they have access to Hulu, Stan and/or Teletoon as they are the first outlets to receive the Animaniacs reboot). As such, we recommend users try to focus their attention on the new episode pages as soon as the episode starts airing.
Edit warring
Edit warring is defined as making three or more reverts on one page within a 24 hour period. Unless it is to remove vandalism, a temporary lock will be placed on the article and both parties may be subject to a 24 hour block. Please discuss any concerns on that article's talk page. Remember to be civil and respectful.
Regarding the "Deceased Characters" Category
Despite the ending to "Everyday Safety: Giant Adirondack Chair," do NOT add Yakko, Wakko, or Dot to the "Deceased Characters" category. Per Animaniacs 2020 executive producer Gabe Swarr, "Nothing can kill those weird monkey dog cat siblings!"
Acknowledging Online Trends and/or Memes
If there is a particular online trend and or meme related to Animaniacs that has gained particular notoriety online, and/or has been acknowledged by people involved with the franchise itself; then they may see some acknowledgment on their respective articles. One prominent example would be the "Amogus" edit of episode 58's "Inkblot Test," which received a dub by Rob Paulsen himself.
Another prominent example would be Wakko's gender being addressed as "other" in DC's Animaniacs issue 48, which has become popular among the internet nonbinary community and enjoyed by crewmembers from the Animaniacs reboot.
One more is the "Pinky Suavo Sexypedia Incident," where it became a joke within the online Animaniacs fandom to get Pinky (in his "Suavo" form) acknowledged on the website (borders on being somewhat suggestive but it was largely tame, so it meets this wiki's guidelines). All three of these examples are acknowledged in the "Trivia" sections of their respective pages.
User pages
Your user page is a place to put information about yourself. Tell us about yourself! We'd love to hear more about you!
You may not edit someone else's userpage without approval unless it is to fix coding or remove vandalism or inappropriate content. You may not only contribute to your userpage. We are an encyclopedia first, so only editing the userpage will result in loss of access to it. You may not upload full episodes to TV shows or full movies to your userpage as this is copyright violation. You may not upload fan work unless you created it or you get approval from the creator (proof may be required).
Regarding Retired Templates
Although they aren't in-use anymore; DO NOT DELETE OR MODIFY any Retired Templates. They remain up for archival purposes; which include researching older revisions of articles.
