A Little Off the Top/Megalomaniacs Anonymous is the 7th episode of the 2nd season of the Pinky and the Brain spin-off series and the 20th episode overall. It originally aired on November 23, 1996. Both cartoons in this episode are animated by Wang Film Productions Co., Ltd..
A Little Off the Top[]
Plot[]
Brain tries to discover the source of Samson's strength.
Crew[]
- Written By Gordon Bressack and Charles M. Howell IV
- Directed By Charles Visser
Trivia[]
- This cartoon is a parody of the 1949 film Samson and Delilah. Much of the human cast of this cartoon are caricatures of the movie's cast.
- Saran rants over winning an Oscar for All About Eve and surviving marriage with two out of three Gabor sisters, yet still being defeated by the jawbone of an ass. This refers to George Sanders, the actor who famously played Saran in the 1949 epic, Samson and Delilah.
- Brain and Saran push just how they can say the word "ass" under the network's censors (in this case- "the jawbone of an ass").
Megalomaniacs Anonymous[]
Plot[]
After breaking down struggling to come up with a plan for global domination, Brain finally realizes he has a problem with this obsession. So, he joins a support group for those obsessed with the notion of taking over the world.
Crew[]
- Written By Bill Matheny and Charles M. Howell IV
- Directed By Nelson Recinos
Trivia[]
- The mice's title card theme from Animaniacs is used as the title card music for this cartoon.
- The people attending the Megalomaniacs Anonymous meeting include Steven Spielberg, Ross Perot, Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein, Josef Stalin, Julius Caesar, Madonna, Bill Gates, and Colonel Gaddafi.
- The scene where Brain calculates Pinky as the one "most dependent on a megalomaniac" mirrors the calculation scenes from the episode "That Smarts." The same song even plays when the connect-the-dots Pinky graphic loads.
- In an interview with KTEH Kids Clubhouse on May 5, 1996, Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche confirmed that LaMarche gave Peter Hastings the idea for the story[1]:
- Maurice: He's used one of my story ideas already...The Brain tries to get help because he feels he's being a little compulsive taking over the world. That's all I'll say. That's it. Rob: He has to go to a 12-step program for compulsive world dominators. Maurice: That's right -- Megalomaniacs Anonymous. That was an idea I suggested, so I'm very honored.
