Plot[]
While reading a book to learn from the mistakes of great leaders of the past, The Brain leads Pinky on a whirlwind tour of history in this musical cartoon. Included are profiles of Cleopatra, Caligula, Hannibal and Napoleon.

- During the song "Meticulous Analysis of History", The Brain flashes two subliminal messages on the screen. They each appear on the screen for only a fraction of a second. They read, respectively: "You see, you are under my power", and "I forced you to use the 'still' button on your VCR".
- The titular song is set to the melody of "When I Was a Lad" from H.M.S. Pinafore, with brief portions utilizing "Shortnin' Bread" and "Turkey in the Straw."
- Pinky expresses a desire to sing his song, "Cheese Roll Call" from this show's fourth episode.
- In Portugal, Brain's singing voice is the famous portuguese singer Pedro Abrunhosa, this is one of the few times he is credited as singing voice

Plot[]
To carry out The Brain's latest plan, he and Pinky go undercover among the Minnesota Rhennish, a strict rural community that eschews modern technology and buttons. Unfortunately, his scheme is interrupted by frequent barn construction and other chores.

- The barn raising scenes spoof the musical number in the 1954 film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
- Throughout the cartoon, the song "Simple Gifts" plays in the background. This song originated from the early American Quakers, who, like the Rhennish in the cartoon, also believed in a simple, hard-working lifestyle.
- The sitcom Friends and its Diet Coke ads are the subject of jokes throughout this cartoon.
- After the ending chorus, Pinky is heard sneezing over the black screen.
