Note that the second cartoon in this episode, "Your Friend Global Domination", contains instances of bright, flashing and flickering white lights and imagery that may affect photosensitive viewers.
Pinky's Turn/Your Friend Global Domination is the 29th episode of the 3rd season of the Pinky and the Brain spin-off series and the 54th episode overall. It originally aired on February 28, 1998. Both cartoons in this episode were animated by Rough Draft.
Pinky's Turn[]
Plot[]
After another painful night of failure, Pinky decides to enact his own plan for world domination. Brain goes along, believing it will fail; but is surprised to see Pinky's plan actually progress farther than most of his own plans have.
Crew[]
- Written by Jed Spingarn
- Directed by Russell Calabrese
Trivia[]
- This cartoon is one of the closest instances the mice come to achieving world domination.
- John Glover guest-stars as tycoon Buzz Peterson; he had previously guest-starred as Rasputin in the Animaniacs cartoon "Nothing But the Tooth".
- Maurice LaMarche reflected on John's role in this episode in-response to a tweet from him celebrating his and Rob Paulsen's first Animaniacs reboot season 3 recording in February 2021.[1]
- When Peterson is first seen, he is seen discussing an individual named "Rupert" on the phone. This may be a nod to News Corporation's founder Rupert Murdoch.
- Pinky's plan is inspired by Brain's own past failed schemes:
- The Oyster-portion is inspired by the Mugu fish scheme from "Big in Japan."
- The Shiny Pants were influenced by a scheme to put the mirror at the North Pole to shine into everybody's eyes.
- The 24-hours of Jugband music that replaces the 24-hour news channel was inspired by Brain's plan to broadcast the music of Rush Limbaugh throughout the world in "The Real Life."
- After noticing this, Brain asks Pinky if he realizes what this means, to which Pinky responds that Brain comes up with a lot of "silly" ideas.
Your Friend: Global Domination[]
Plot[]
The Brain describes what things would be like if he ruled the world in an "educational" PSA.
Crew[]
- Written by Gordon Bressack
- Directed by Russell Calabrese
- Narrated by The Brain
Trivia[]
- The Brain himself is credited with narrating this cartoon.
- As stated in the warning above, this cartoon contains sequences of flashing and flickering white screens that may affect photosensitive viewers. These sequences occur when Brain's film tears up as well as the ending chorus.
- Brain proposes the alteration of some popular media under his rule. These include changing Seinfeld to Brainfeld, and Casablanca to Casabrainia.
- Brain's internet-capable juice-maker and washing machine device "Compu-Juice-a-Matic" bears similarities to modern day smart appliances; which can perform certain tasks (including juice-making) while browsing the web.
- In the end, Brain starts shouting "Try to take over the world!", but then the picture starts to roll up and down and the audio suddenly makes weird garbled sounds followed by the film burning and leaving a blank flickering screen. After this, the ending chorus is heard per usual.
