Deduces Wild/Rest in Pieces/U.N. Me is the 72nd episode of the original Animaniacs and the 3rd episode of its 3rd season. It is the first episode to air on Kids' WB! (although this episode is listed as the third episode of this season in most episode packages). Every cartoon in this episode was animated by Wang Film Production.
Among the items on the Warners' scavenger hunt list are:
Princess Di in a leotard: A reference an incident where members of the paparazzi discreetly photographed Diana, Princess of Wales in a health club wearing a leotard, for which they were successfully sued.
Prince Charles in a tabloid: A reference to the media frenzy surrounding his and Princess Diana's divorce.
A funny episode of "Bonkers": A jab at the Disney Afternoon show.
A happy postal worker: A reference to a series of well-publicized shootings by disgruntled postal workers, which inspired the phrase "Going postal".
A lock of Yul Brynner's hair: Brynner was an actor best known for appearing in the films The King and I and The Ten Commandments, the joke being that he's bald.
Burt Ward's career: Ward is best known for playing Robin in the original 1960s Batman TV series, and his difficulty in finding work after its cancellation. (Wakko can't find it.)
Batteries: Wakko pulls out Energizer's bunny mascot out of the bag.
The Lusitania: A British ocean liner that was sunk by German U-boats in 1915, killing 128 American passengers, and the incident was a major factor in rallying the United States to enter World War I.
Marlon Brando: A famous actor known for his excessive weight later in life. (Wakko cannot pull him out of the bag.)
Rest in Pieces
Plot
Slappy and Skippy attend the funeral of Walter Wolf seemingly unaware that Walter is actually faking his death to get revenge on Slappy.
This cartoon marks the first time Nathan Ruegger's deepening voice was pitch-shifted upward to keep Skippy's voice consistently high.
Twice in this cartoon, Slappy and Skippy poke fun at the Disney Afternoon show Bonkers, which the Warners did earlier in the episode during Deduces Wild.
The Warners make a cameo appearance as the funeral ushers before being chased off by Ralph.
Wakko later returns to play the rimshot after Slappy says that it's what she calls "enbombing", with the same stock footage of the rimshot from "Taming of the Screwy" being used in the scene.
Goofs
Walter is seen sitting in a chair when he is supposed to be in a tomb.
This is the second segment to not feature any spoken dialogue and just singing; the first since "Yakko's Universe."
When Yakko sings the line "New York, on 42nd. St.", he is joined briefly by a chorus line. This is a reference to the musical 42nd Street.
When the Warners spill soda on the costly artwork from Brazil, the "Dogs Playing Poker" painting takes it over.
Pesto makes a cameo near the end of the segment holding an olive branch in his beak.
The "Beat our swords into liverwurst" line is a variation on the biblical reference to beating swords into plowshares, which means to give-up war in favor of peace. This also references the U.N's job to negotiate peace between nations and avoid conflict.
