Hub Network (originally named The Hub until Summer 2013) was an American digital cable and satellite television network that launched on October 10, 2010 until October 13, 2014. The channel, which replaced Discovery Kids, was a joint venture of Discovery (now Warner Bros. Discovery) and the toy company Hasbro. It targeted a dual audience, young children in the daytime with children's programs, and families at night with sitcoms, dramas and feature films. While much of its programming consisted of acquired reruns of children's programming and sitcoms, it was also known for its original programs such as Transformers: Prime, Dan Vs., and most notably, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Broadcast history[]

Wakko's Wish was broadcast on the channel in November 2012 as part of the "Hub Family Movie". Voice actor Jess Harnell reprised his role as Wakko in a promo for the film. The Hub later announced that they would be airing reruns of Animaniacs, starting with a four-hour marathon on Christmas Eve and the show officially joining the network's lineup on January 7, 2013. Special dialogue was provided by Rob Paulsen, Tress MacNeille, and Jess Harnell, reprising their roles as the Warners and Pinky, for promos announcing the show's inclusion. Maurice LaMarche also reprised the voice of Brain for promos and bumpers for an Animaniacs marathon that aired on September 2, 2013.

On October 13, 2014, the Hub Network was rebranded as Discovery Family, which also changed the format of the network. Animated shows aired during the morning hours, while leftovers from Discovery networks aired during primetime. Animaniacs was originally going to remain on the channel's schedule, but it was inexplicably removed from the lineup in place of educational programs. Despite this, Tiny Toon Adventures (and its respective film and two holiday specials) still aired until the network's syndication license for it ran out. As of 2023, neither Tiny Toon Adventures nor Animaniacs are airing on the channel (however, the channel has begun to air WBA programs The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries and Baby Looney Tunes after the channel was brought into Warner Bros. Discovery).

Trivia[]

  • When episodes of Animaniacs aired on The Hub's HD feed, the picture quality of many episodes was oddly slightly cropped at a 14:9 aspect ratio by 2014. The one exception, however, was episode 61, which was reran in its original 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • Apparently, The Hub had made an effort to acquire broadcast rights to Pinky and the Brain as well as Freakazoid!, but these efforts were thwarted by the launch of Discovery Family in the year of 2014.[1] The authenticity of this information is unknown.
  • The last time Garage Sale of the Century/West Side Pigeons aired on the network was on October 10, 2014.
  • Despite Discovery Family dropping Animaniacs, characters from the show could still be seen on the channel through their cameos in Tiny Toons' Night Ghoulery (rerun in 2014) and Tiny Toon Spring Break (rerun in 2015). Additionally, episodes featuring Ralph T. Guard were reran as well.
  • As of 2023, Hub-successor Discovery Family is now under the same roof as Warner Bros. through Warner Bros. Discovery. Retroactively, Discovery's half of The Hub brand name is also under WB Discovery as well. The channel has since made an effort to air various Looney Tunes-related productions, but there are no signs of the Animaniacs franchise returning to the channel as of 2024.
